Hey gots_mad_paper,

No. You cannot copyright (for written word protection) or patent it. It is public domain.

You can copyright an image of a wheel. Odds are good it'd be such a thin copyright that you could never enforce any sort of infringement against anyone, and the registration would cost you money (as would any legal action).

To exclude others from using your invention takes a patent. The wheel, as a known device, would not be eligible subject matter for a patent. You can, of course, attempt to patent a wheel. I'm sure some patent attorney would be happy to take your money to tell you what I've just said.

No - you may only patent inventions that are not widely known to exist, or that make use of something old in a new way.

You can get a patent for it, not a copyright. Copyrights are for Intellectual Property only,i.e., written material, books, plays, etc.
