$6.00 was wasted.
one guy bought some bananas and forget to eat them untill they were already bad. the rest of the money was spent wisely. I expect 10 points because I actually gave you a number.

Not that much. We certainly don't give our scientists much money in the US. And besides this is the IAU, it's what they do, those who fund them know that that is part of what they fund. Also it's not so trivial, it could cause issue with extrasolar planets later. The scientists have figured it out and are done with it, it's the public that keeps draging it out and wasting money arguing something that cannot be changed. No one bitches about Websters spending money figuring out the proper definition of verb.

Very little was "wasted", actually...the IAU would have had their meeting anyway. Here's a clue folks, they do more than talk about Pluto at their meetings. This topic has really brought out the morons who don't know jack about science.

This isn't new, Pluto is just some of the most publicized work of the IAU. They also name asteroids.
