They will take mane & tail from your horse & make a really neat piece of pottery. It is $40, and each one is unique. Then you would have a nice bowl in your room that was made with something from your horse.
Remember, it is never easy to do the right thing for our animals. Knowing that you are easing his suffering should make it a little easier, but it is o.k. to be sad.

First, I am so sorry. I know this must be a hard time for you. Let me tell you what someone else did to remember their horse. Where I used to live, there was a horse that always liked to stand on top of a hill near a road. Everybody who would drive by would see the horse and remebered it. The horse apparenly liked the breeze that came up the hill and always looked so happy. When the horse died, everyone was sad and actually created a plaque and placed it on fence near where the horse always hung out. People leave flowers there every once in awhile.
When my cat died I made her a plaque to remember her, and we planted yellow roses over her grave - a enternal reminder of how she was such a wonderful friend to all of us.
Hopefully I've given you a few good suggestings. I'm sorry for you loss.

Every horse that I had to put down, I would keep their halters and never use them again. If I buy a new horse, I would buy new halters.
I would also cut a little of mane and tail and keep it with a letter of how I felt that day and place it in a bag.
I would put up pictures, ribbons and awards I got with these horses to remind me of them being a wonderful horse. I would also express wonderful/fun times with others to help get these emotions out.
Try to do some of those and see if it helps you. Putting down animals is extremly hard and won't be able to get through it quick. It is a healing process. Yet as the day goes by to weeks, into months, then into years, it does get better.

I'm so sorry. That's really difficult and I've gone through a similar situation. Something really nice that you could do would be to create a sort of memory box of your horse. You could pick out a nice box and put in little memorials like maybe one of his shoes, a braid of hair from his mane, your favourite pictures of him and any other sweet little reminders of him. Then whenever you miss him and feel sad, you could just look at all of those items and remeber the good times you guys had. It will make you feel better. And again I am so sorry.

I've had to have several horses put down. It's difficult each time and doesn't get any easier. I always cut a lock of hair from their mane and save their halter, no one else gets to use it. I keep a scrapbook of the horses, so I make a memorial page with photos and the mane lock. Each year I donate money to equine rescue in the deceased horses names, makes me feel much better.

I lost my two year old gelding this past April to Strangles. I had just moved and had him boarded out. I couldn't keep him at home, no room.
It is very hard when you lose a member of the family. I can go into a feed/tack shop and see something that reminds me of him, then break down and cry in the middle of the shop. I have pictures of him in almost every room in my house and in my wallet. Most carry pictures of their kids with them. I carry pictures of my horses. They are my kids...
Some days are better than others. The only thing that will bring you relief, is time. And plenty of it. Just thinking of him while typing this is causing me to tear up. The ONLY cure is time. The hurt will never go away completely, only diminish.
I truly am sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your horse in my thoughts and prayers.

Losing a pet is difficult no matter what the reason. You have my sympathies on your loss.
What you might want to do is check for pictures you may have of the horse. Maybe get several together in a collage, add a pinch of mane hair and then matte/frame it all and put it in a place of prominence in your stable or home?

hi, im really sorry, that must be hard for you. Was the horse sick, in pain, or suffering? If so, then know that you did the right thing, however hard that may be. The horse is in a better place now...

I don't know if you want to cry about it, but it helped me when I said farewell to the Best friend I ever had.
This poem will bring the tears,
Gentle caress of of muzzle,
Soft little whimpering neigh!
Stronger than words to awaken
Memory's wondrous array.
Measures can fathom the ocean,
Reckon the swiftness of light;
Where is the standard for sorrow?
Where is the standard for right?
Where is the meter of sadness
Gauging the grief of good-bye
Bid to a favorite hunter?
What is the depth of a sigh?
Standards of measure are futile,
Vain is the effort to tell;
Only the one who has felt it
Plumbs the full depth of farewell.
One loving pat in the stable,
One little catch at the heart,
One little sorrowing silent kiss of two spirits that part.
