...It was originally DO NOT WEAR WHITE SHOES after Labor day.....Over the past decades somehow it changed to refer to our clothing. I watched a fashion show today & they actually talked about this topic...They paired white with blues, creams & winter white clothing for the Fall season...Wear what makes you comfortable....good question

White is considered a summer color. After Labor Day its starts getting cold so people think you should wear fall and winter colors.

In my opinion it derives from years back when laundry soaps were inferior to what we have now. In the years past they had to hang thier clothes outside to dry, during the summer months the sun bleached the whites white. So after Labor day it was hard to keep the whites clean looking bacause the sun was not available to do the bleaching.

white is a color for summer. after labor day its going to be fall and winter. imagine ur standing in the snow wearing all white. how wierd. also, white has a breezy and neat feeling. during fall and winter, its not cool warm air but cold. and u can't exactly make fall be summer.

Who made up the rule anyway? Why do they still make white coats, white turtle necks,(which I own)white winter caps? If you feel comfortable in it - wear it. And right now the fall catalogs are featuring black and white outfits and off-white ones also.

I'm just guessing (making it up):
Could it have to do with bad weather?
White is hard to keep clean in rain/mud & snow/slush Especially shoes.
