Sounds a lot like what I said in response to her question, except that I talked about other health problems (my answer is on the first page if you want to look). War is just as valid a cause though.

Cancer gets so much press because it's something that can happen to anyone. I'm not saying it's not an important problem, but cancer research is so well funded already, and so many smart people go into already. Really, if we just let the scientists do their job, they're getting really close to cures for a lot of different kinds of cancers. I worked in a research lab at Sloan-Kettering this summer, and I assure you that all their cancer labs were very well funded and staffed. I'm not trying to minimize the suffering caused by the disease, and there's a good chance I'm going to go into cancer research myself when I finish school, but it already IS a global priority, and it's already getting all the attention it needs. War and poverty kill people too.

Because war is something most nations MAKE for themelves. Cancer is put upon you and you are made to have cancer. Everyone that chooses to go to war has that choice before they sign up for the military. With Cancer you don't have a choice. Plus cancer has alot more victims than any war ever.
