In the song "Life For Rent" she´s talkin bout her life, and all the things she used to dream of.. "I've always thought, that I would love to live by the sea, To travel the world alone, and live my life more simply "....and then shes talks bout how her dreams never became reality bcuz she just didnt try enough...she doesnt want to buy, bcuz buyin is so permanent, she just wants to rent...so she wont ever be bound down by anything, you know? And in her lyrics "But if my life is for rent and I don't lean to buy, Well I deserve nothing more than I get, Cos nothing I have is truly mine", she´sayin that if she doesnt learn to "buy" (do somethin more definite with her life)..she wont really have an identity, cuz nothin she does, nothin she has, will ever truely mean anything.

This is my interpretation of the song anyway. Hope it helps. :))

if your life is for rent then other people use it so in other words people were using Dido to get her to do what they wanted not what she wanted.
