First and most importantly it should be understood that we do not die. The body dies. Or rather, the body is never alive in the first place, but it is animated by the spirit soul, our real identity, and therefore it seems to be alive. When the eternal spirit soul leaves the temporary body, this is called death. Every body has a predestined life time that is set at the time of its birth. The Vedic science of Jyotish can reveal the exact time of death of the body when the place, date and time of the body's birth is known. We are put into a certain body in a particular mother's womb, a certain family, country, situation, etc. to fulfill our desires and to reap the results of our karmic activities in the past.

Anything can seem random when we don't know the causes behind the event. Superficially everything can seem random. But in reality every detail of this material world is completely under the control of the energy of the Supreme Lord. This does not exclude free will. We have the little bit of independence to either choose the life that is predestined by our karma or break free from our karmic past and begin our spiritual life. When the Lord, who is seated in our hearts, witnesses our sincere desire to know Him, He makes the arrangement for us to meet His pure devotee and make further spiritual progress.

Not quite random (there is causality to think of, otherwise I could randomly die 76,000 years from now.

To the heart of the question:
1 My science half says there is free choice built into the universe (quantum/heisenberg stuff)
2 My religious side says there is free will built into people, otherwise what's the point if all is predestined.

different religions have different beliefs. i don't however think that any religion has a random fate for a dead person though. it's usually you're predestined to be reincarnated as an animal, you go to heaven and meet God, or you die and that's the end of it.

Death is random no one knows when it's check-out time, but as an average most humans live approximately 650,000 hours. Having been though a traumatic experience, I hope you realize how important those hours are. Be happy, but do not take things too seriously. …enjoy.... life is great!

As much as a flower is predestined to wither, so are you predestined to die.

Death is what ever you believe it is, the truth is know one really knows if death is predestined or not; and because they do not know they say you go when it is your time or you go when god wants you to come to heaven.

Its not predestined or lucky to avoid death. Only the strong survive.

It is predestined if there is a contract out on you.
It is random in drivebys.

It is quite random. Its just a disintegration of complex organism into organic compounds which after awhile change back into inorganic atoms.
