a public urinal is used by LOTS of people unlike a domestic one would and it only smells when it's not cleaned properly, i've been in modern public toilets the ones i visit don't smell bad because they are clean.....

I went to a house that had a urinal in it. Was automatic too. It was next to the garage, even had a men's room sign on the door. It was the topic at the Open House. It is a great idea.

I think it is because blokes can use both. Also the size of the bathroom is an issue.
I don't know many working class houses with a Bidet in near me. In fact the only place I have seen a bidet is in the houses of the rich and famous (in magazines) and certain wards in a hospital.
I got told off someone when I was looking around the ward before having my first kid a bidet was to wash your feet in and I believed them until a nurse told me different.

Most just have 1 toilet, 1 sink and 1 bath in the Bathroom. My bathroom is quite small I wouldn't have room for a urinal.

I used to clean toilets at the hospital, I would rather clean toilets than urinals any day of the week. Even the loo in the blokes toilet is easier to clean than the urinals.

On Dr Tanya's "House of little tiny tearaways" they put plastic balls in the loo to get the little boys to aim into the toilet.

Lots of reasons. First, one can't just have a urinal in a bathroom, because then it's useless for females. Even if you have a house full of just men, it would make the home impossible to sell later. So, the urinal must be in addition to a regular toilet, which not only takes up space many/most people don't have, but it adds additional cost for not only the urinal itself, but the installation and plumbing that goes along with it. Second, urinals don't look as nice--in fact, they're flat out ugly. Most people don't put ugly things in their homes unless out of necessity. Further, manufacturers add options to housing developments that they can make a profit on, and these are usually purchased in bulk and are guided by consumer demand. Urinals don't have that demand, thus the option would be unprofitable for a home builder. Finally, the absence of a urinal is not a dealbreaker for anyone--however, the presence of one might be. You run the risk of turning the bathroom into a boy zone, and alienating females. It's more likely that a woman purchasing such a home would make removing the urinal a top priority.

Russians and English look in disgust at the Americans' toilets in the same room as the shower and tub. Perhaps Americans would look the same to find urinals in their "waterclosets".
Mostly, it is because they can stink to high-heaven if not daily cleaned.
The builders do not want to explore the issue because it would cost in R&D, but mostly add to the cost of the sale of the home.

Looks like the urinal gets the no vote so hey get yourself a lemon tree and p*ss against that,at least you get a reward for the waste, lovely big juicy lemons and nobody will chastise you because you are fertilising the garden. No odour, no cleaning only benefits.

Who would want their house to smell like a mens public toilet? It's the smell that would be the problem not the splash!

Because you need planning permission to majorly alter the plumbing. Fitting a urinal requires planning permission, which is expensive and long winded.

And if you're going toilet in your bidet, I worry. :)

in case you all started including those type of more effective furniture to a lavatory, you would ought to advance the size of it. maximum human beings don't have large loos. Plus that is more effective fee effective to easily installation a bathroom which could take care of the purposes of all those different units besides.

Too right!!!
It's a win - win situation mate! Guess who cleaned up the 'golden puddle' on the laminate in our loo when hubby was in an 'advanced state of refreshment'?!?! To be fair I didn't do it as a favour to him and because I'm female I have never let him forget it!

It's funny. Houses used to be built with stand-up urinals back in the twenties, but they stopped doing it because they wanted to build smaller homes which meant smaller bathrooms.
