And why did his mother have the nerve to say "that most of the people were poor anyway and that the convention center was a step up for them" Bush to me is such a prejudice person and I hate him so much. He is why this country is going to SERIOUSLY suffer in the near future.

to "Grandma's rights" and the answerer below him: How dare you!? Do you have any idea what those people had to go through. You are some of the most narcissitic, moronic, ignorant people i've ever heard. "their chocolate city"!!! FYI i'm black and just because of their skin color they deserved to be treated like animals. And other races of people suffered also. How can you look at yourself in the mirror. And I am aware of how a war starts and that's not the downfall i'm talkin about. Secondly I have an opinion on my own thank you very much I don't just follow a Monkey of a president and hang on his every word. And if you were deprived and education, and the federal government failed to give money for a deplorable school you would drop out too. So don't say that thousands of people suffered because they dropped out of school, that makes YOU the ignorant one.

OMG are some of you so oblivious to the fact that mayor Nagin did ask for help, and the Governor was an idiot, but come on what kind of person could not see that they needed help. Just because they were black it took them a week. When the tsunami hit in the middle east America was there in a day! A DAY! and these people pay taxes and are American Citizens and they were left for dead. No food or water! Some of the people were poor, but they at least had proper sewage and water to drink. They wouldn't even allow the people to walk out of New orleans they baracaded the bridge at gun point and told everyone to turn around. God some people have no heart. So don't give me that crap that Bush and his family arn't racist because that's B.S. Bush is the Worst president ever and there is no excuse for why the people of New Orleans had to suffer and still are, because FEMA arn't doing their job either.

Some people didn't have the means to evacuate. You know even though most of them do work 2-3 jobs they only make enough to feed there family not take a unexpected vacation. Stop being so racist and narrow minded

I live in Louisiana......NOT New Orleans and I lost EVERYTHING! My house wasn't flooded. It was GONE. It is a risk we take and a risk some of us take seriously. We understand what can happen and we deal with that. Our country was better prepared to deal with catastrophes OUTSIDE our borders than it was to deal with something like Katrina. President Bush decided to make FEMA part of homeland security, thereby diminishing it's power. Then he appointed an idiot named Brown to head FEMA. He did not even check Brown's references on his resume'. Brown's resume' was seriously padded. It's not our local governments. It's not our state governments. It's at the highest level in the country. It's our wonderfully bigoted president.

yup... it's always Bush's fault... oh... the toilet isn't flushing... it must be Bush's fault.
The idiots in that city got what was comming to them. The weather people tell you "Hey, this is the BIG one, so get out"... and people just sit around like their stupid mayor "We've got it under control". Why don't the stupid people in that city take care of their damn city... they want Bush to come from Washington to personally airlift each one of them because they're too damned lazy and they think they're "speshil".
New Orleans should have never been built where it is now, it will always be a problem when a city is right next to the ocean and it's 25 ft under sea level AND there's a river flowing through it and the water in the river is 25 ft above street level.
I say bust those stupid levees and let the whole place go to the bottom of the freegin ocean where it belongs.
And shut the hell up about help not being offered fast enough. What happened to people who were there first to help? huh?
They got shot at, that's what happened. You got a city full of criminals and people run to help and people start shooting at them. THANK_YOU_VERY_MUCH, but no thanks.
I donated to the tsunami efforts because those were a bunch of truly helpless people. But I'm not giving a dime ever for New Orleans people because they're a bunch of thankless spoiled brats who think it's the responsibility of government to rescue them from their own stupidity.

First of all, it was not President Bush's responsibility. Most of the responsibility is in the hands of the governor of Louisiana, and the mayor of New Orleans. This is why we have state governments.
What Mrs Bush (Barbara) REALLY said was this:
"Almost everyone I've talked to says, 'We're going to move to Houston.' What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.
And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them."

If you really think about it, many of those poor people who lost everything in the hurricane have seen such an outpouring of love and generosity that they NEVER would have seen otherwise.
In some ways, they truly are better off now. They've seen nature do its worst, and now they see people doing their best.
No matter what had happened, those people still would have lost their homes. The levy was there before Bush even CONSIDERED a career in politics, so it wasn't his fault that it burst. It should have been fixed years ago. The state should have been prepared.
The governor and mayor should have pushed more people to evacuate. There should have been more plans in place to assist those people; after all, they were living in a hurricane-prone location.
I know this probably isn't the answer you're looking for. You probably want to hear how racist the president is (he's NOT), how the debacle was completely his fault (it WASN'T)...but you're not going to find that answer here. Sorry.

It did not take him long remember. The Governor has to ask for help first. What took her so long, why did the Mayor leave all those people stranded. Why did they spend the money allocated to them to repair the levee's, on the football stadium. It's easy to blame other people for the states incompetents, the people elected those crooks maybe next election they will be more careful.

Why did it take Nagin so long to ask for help?
And most of those people WERE/ARE extremely poor, so people cant tell the truth anymore without being called racist?
Ok so are you saying that being put up in great apartments in Houston and having their bills paid for isnt a step-up from 9th ward for these people?
I live in a pretty expensive apartment complex and it is over run with evacuees, everyone knows they couldnt afford it!

Bush asked what they needed the day Katrina hit. The governor said everything was under control. Don't blame Bush for Louisiana's inept handling of their levee system. For 50 years they were warned that too much water could cause breaks.
As for our country suffering, it will happen when a democrat is elected pres. Just like when slick willy was in.

It doesn't matter what any of you say that are trying to defend Bush...
The people that hate him, hate him. Some can give reasons, the rest say it because it sounds good. Regardless, they are just mindless trolls who use these boards as playground while school is out of session.
As for Barbara Bush saying that? Show me proof. I want to see a video tape with her saying that. I don't want text that could have came from anywhere... give me a link to a video clip of her saying it.
PS....
When did Nagin ask for help? When a camera showed the hundreds of school buses sitting in a parking lot and reported that nobody did anything about helping those who couldn't leave New Orleans on their own by bussing them out. Nagin and that jewel of a governor were more concerned with their ego's in regards to each other than they were with what was happening to the people of New Orleans. It is a bit harsh to say that the people of New Orleans got what was coming to them BUT how in the world could they re-elect that jerk? No offense, but that wasn't the brightest move. To this day he continues to show the rest of the country just how much of an imbecile he is. Hard to feel sorry for people when they allow that man back at the helm.
As for the people being treating like animals??? Many, many, MANY of the people behaved like animals. Who is it that allowed the conditions in the temporary shelters to deteriorate to the level they did? It wasn't anyone outside of the walls of those shelters. It certainly wasn't anyone in Washington. I remember watching news clip after news clip of trash being strewn everywhere. People just sitting amongst the trash. If that had been me, traumatized or not, I would have been busy cleaning up the trash instead of sitting on my tush waiting for someone to rescue me. How could anyone just sit by and allow the area around them to just stay like that?! People taking craps anywhere they felt like. For goodness sakes, they were in a flood!! Anyone with a brain KNOWS all it takes to flush a toilet is pouring water into it. Not like they didn't have a supply of water at hand. Instead they crapped anywhere and everywhere and then proceeded to smear the walls with it. An animal wouldn't even do that..
This country is suffering not because of Bush. This country is suffering because people like you can not and REFUSE to face the facts and take responsibility. Instead you want others to take the responsibility for you. THAT is the problem with the world today.
BY THE WAY... Where is that link to a video clip of Barbara Bush? You have conveniently ignored that little request. Imagine that.

It didn't.
I would point out to you that the result of the worst hurricane to hit the United States was a few hundred (1800+) dead. With a million people displaced by the storm and vast damage to the infrastructure that's a damn good record.
Contrast that with the heat wave that took place in France a few years ago. France is, after all, the country whose system the Democrats would most like to emulate. There, a couple of weeks of slightly warmer temperatures resulted in thousands (14,802 in France...35,000+ in Western Europe) of deaths.
