Good idea. If US had sent the 04 Champion Pistons with Larry Brown, then I don't think anyone could beat them. 05 Champion Spurs, maybe not, because Tony Parker, Nesterovic, and Ginoboli would be gone. Then, we can send Mavs, but without Dirk and Diop; or Suns without Nash, Barbosa, and Diaw..., it won't work. So there leaves the team LA Clippers, which is a very good team. Oh how about 06 Champion Miami Heat? No way, Shaq was a liability to defend Pick-n-Roll. The way Greeks shot last night would destroy the Heat, because not even the current, speedy US team could beat that. Besides, the passing lane and zone defense from Europe and S. America will cause lots of problems, because US team had bad mid to long range jump shot. Besides, who wants to add some big men who eventually would become a drag on the freethrow line?

It depends on the group of guys. The original "Dream Team" from '96 were amazing and dominated the games. We just don't have the players around like those anymore it seems these days. With the current roster of players I'd say I agree with you that it would definitely be better to send a group that works well as a cohesive unit rather the a group of individuals.

First of all there is no way in the world an owner would allow his players to possibly be injured.
Also most teams have foreign players so they couldn't play.
The NBA game is not about team basketball anymore. It's about individual play and dunking. There's also no team defense anymore.
The rest of the world plays basketball the way it should be played; team basketball; it's the way we used to play it.

There are major players in each team come from other countries..so mostly the whole team is not there. Also, the USA would like to take the chance to advertisement thier best players at the world stage. So, they can get more known and sell more jerseys and shoes.

i've always been wary of single elimination games since a more superior team can have an off night and lose....given the less accurate shooting percentages of the usa team their loss of only 6 points was an indication of their superior talent...they were outshot 62 to 50 percent and only sank 59% from the free throw line...i really think fiba should change the single elimination format for the semis and finals so fluke winners would be more far-fetched...best of three would make the americans probable winners in their recent losses in the international scene

No. I think it's more a matter of the style they play. You really don't have the play making abilities of Magic, Bird or Jordan. I was always amazed to see how those guys got the whole team involved and when it came down to crunch time then they asked for the ball and usually delivered.

The problem wasnt haven people wanting to be stars it was the picking of the team and coach K blows...... If we had are best talent like all the euro teams did we would destroy them.... Tim Duncan KG Shaq no one can stop any of them in international play.

Street ball doesnt work in a real basketball game.. Thats why these kids like Lebron should go to college. Melo was the only guy doing anything.
