happens to me all the time. This is how to reset an IPod Mini. You didnt say which model yours was. Hope it works!
Try rebooting it.
1. Toggle the 'hold' switch on and off
2. Press and hold the 'menu' and 'select' buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

If it's flashing, you just need to hit the button that ejects the ipod. It's a little arrow next to where it shows your ipod in the left hand column of the itunes program.

you may have it set so that you have to disconect it manually. try ejecting it from itunes if that doesnt work in your taskbar should be an icon saying do you want to disconect this device click it and if that doesnt work shut down your computer then unplug your ipod after the do not disconect sign goes away

if its a i pod nano, they are rubbish, mines froze at the mo i cant be bothered to sort it out again, now i get a message telling me to look at a website for a solution, but it froze once before and took me ages to sort it so i have given up and wished i got a cheap mp3 player, that would probably last longer!

if it doesn't sort itself press and hold the play button and the centre button together and it will reset itself.
