If the washer stops after the wash and does not fill for the rinse it most likely is the cold water side of the water inlet valve. You usually get a cold rinse and if there is no water coming in for the rinse the machine just sits there doing nothing.
Set the empty machine for a cold wash and see if you are getting cold water for the wash cycle. If not you need an inlet valve(the plastic thing that the hoses are connected to in the rear of the washer).

Does your washer Agitate? Chances are the Belt or gear that spins the tub is broken or stripped. Is the washer pumpiing out the dirty wash water and refilling with water in the rinse cycle? If so you need a new gear/belt depending on your model.

Sounds like it might be a timer issue. If the timer is not advancing, it will stop after washing. To move on to the next stage, it needs to be working. You need a wiring schematic to determine that with a VOM tester. If the timer is okay, it must be something else.

I would call a repairman from the place you bought it. Do you have a front loader or top loader? I used to have a top loader, and those are notorious for getting socks jammed in the motor. Or, it could be something electrical or with the motor.
