as silly and simple as it may sound, it just has one more gear, 6th gear is usually where the overdrive gear is, in some vehicles it could be a secondary overdrive gear.

5 speed forward manual transmission is normally found in vehicles whose torque/horsepower/rpm/top speed do not demand the addition of a 6th gear.

That is why most 6th gear, is found in either, vehicles which have to handle a lot of speed, so as to ease on upgearing, instead of dragging each gear bit by bit, they break it into more different gears, so that each gear is in its optimized range. Or vehicles which require alot of horsepower, and torque, like a towing vehicle, or a crane. They need so much power to move off that the 5 gear speed range will make them have insufficent power in each gear.

Last food for thought: For manual vehicles, if you control your clutch proper, you could move off in gear 5 if you want, i tried it before, without stalling and no accelerator. But its gonna take a long time for you to reach the stage where your engine is roaring instead of purring. Thats what the 4 lower gears are for =D

6 speed has one extra equipment of course, so it may get extra helpful gasoline mileage at bigger speeds. a million con could be that usually the shifting situations on a 6 speed are quicker, and the mph in each and each equipment is way less. to illustrate if the comparable genuine automobile had the two a 5 speed or a 6 speed as ideas, the 5 speed might redline in 2d equipment at 65mph, while the 6 speed might redline at 59mph or 60 mph. You look to might desire to shift extra regularly in a 6 speed, even nonetheless it does have that's united statesand downs overall performance-smart. yet another con some 6 speed is the gears are closer at the same time and it would take a rapid time to get used to shifting. yet average, in my opinion a 6 speed is extra helpful than a 5 speed.

There isnt much difference. The only thing is that the vehicle is "geared" differently, meaning there might be a little more low end torque but the sixth gear is really only used for fuel efficency on the freeways just to add an "over drive" gear. It is to keep the RPM's lower while cruisin at higher speeds.

Well, 5 speed has longer gear rations than a 6 speed.

Also maybe 6 speed has O/D [overdrive]

Both top gears will be overdrive (i.e. less than a 1:1 gear ratio).
