This would take me a long time to explain but i try to simplify it as good as I can. The earth is divided up in latitudes and longitudes.Like a grid system. Latitudes go parallel with equator which is at 0 Degrees North or South and 90 Degrees at the poles. Longitudes goes from pole to Pole with 0 Degrees East or West goes through England at a place called Greenwich. It is 360 Degrees around the Earth were 180 degrees is West and 180 degrees is East.
I would suggest that you go into Google Earth and download the free version and practice there. If you want to ask me some more questions regarding this or a more thoroughly explanation, I would be more that happy to help you out. you can get hold of me through my Yahoo answers ID.

Look on a globe and you can see which direction to go for latitude increase (up and down) or for longitude increase (along the equator). Google map your present location and see what numbers they provide. That will give you the feeling for how to do it.
