It's a toss up between Pujols, Howard and Beltran, although in most years the MVP comes from the team with the best record or the team that improved the most with the help of the potential MVP. In this case, it would be Beltran of the Mets, but if Ryan Howard does reach 60 or more home runs, he could pull out the trophy. Pujols is putting up his usual numbers and a lot of writers who vote for MVP would most likely pick someone else this year, just for having a new name on the list, so that boils it down to either Howard or Beltran. David Wright can also sneak in if he has a sensational September.

Pujols will win the MVP because he is the sole reason offensively the Cards have kept afloat. You can honestly assess that without him on that team, the Cards conceivably have 10-15 more losses. Hits for avg, power, drives in runs and gets on base. What's more, he's clutch, hitting over 300 with runners in scoring position. His ability to drive the ball anywhere on the field makes him doubly dangerous late in the games when you can't pitch around him.
More than any other in the NL (Boston's Ortiz qualifies in AL), Pujols is the driving force behind that team. The fact that the Cardinals wouldn't be in post-season contention at all without him speaks volumes about his value to that team, and that's why he'll win the MVP.

The MVP is awarded to the player that is the most valuable and contributed the most to his teams success. I doubt St Louis would be 5 games in first if not for Albert Pujols. The Phillies are 3 out of the wild card race. Carlos Beltran has hit about .220 at Shea Stadium.

What player deserves it most? My guess is Pujols.

My vote goes to Ryan Howard. He's singlehandedly trying to get the Phillies in the playoffs.

Sure, Utley and Burrell have some decent numbers and are helping the cause too, but virtually every respectable baseball writer wrote the Philles off when they traded Abreu. If the Phillies bullpen hadn't squandered two late leads yesterday, they'd be tied for the wild card right now, and Howard is the biggest reason for it.

Beltran has definite help from the rest of the Mets, especially on the mound. Pujols isn't helping the Cardinals right now the way Howard is helping the Phillies.

A year Ago the Mets were barely over .500 Carlos Beltran was hampered with injuries having a sub par year.
Carlos Beltran is Carlos Beltran again in 2006 and the Mets are currently 32 games over .500.

Not only does he deserve MVP, but also comeback player of the year.

Howard can watch Beltran play in the play offs from his couch in wherever he lives, at the end of the day winning the pennant is better than individual achievements for a losing team.

I think Miguel Cabrera should if the Marlins win the wild card but i dont think that is likely so the man is pujols. When he was out of the line up cardinals really struggled and Pujols has been their only consistent on offense. Rolen is good here and ther but Pujols is who carries that team. Beltran has a good chance but i dont think hes even the most valuable on that team, Jose Reyes who is always in scoring position because he is such a threat on the base path is what sets up the Mets offense. Pujols is the man to beat.

I think it should be Carlos Beltran, whose bounce back numbers have helped catapult the Mets to the top of the heap in the NL. But they will probably give it to Albert Pujols.

It has to be Howard he is carrying the Phils. Utley hasn't hit anything since his hitting streak ended, they traded half the team at the trade dead line, they have Abraham Nunez starting for them, and they still have a really good chance of making the playoffs.

Beltran has had a great year but the Mets our up by 14 games, he isn't the only guy who made the difference between them being a playoff team and finishing 15 games under .500.

And Pujols was hurt for too long and there are too many other decent bats in their line-up, (Rolen, Edmunds).

Ryan Howard. Im not even sure Beltran is the best on his team, I'd take Jose Reyes over him anyday. Pujols has done well this season considering he had the injury, but the Cardinals are not doing well at all. Ryan Howard meanwhile, has been the bright spot for the Phillies all year long. Utley hasn't done a single thing since the hit-streak, and Rollins hasn't done well at all this year, due to inconsistency. And, they don't have Abreu anymore, so you have to give it to him. He just broke the record for homers.
