hi there

I passed my cbt 1st time after learning to ride on a Honda NSR 125. Absolutely fabulous bike for a beginner, then after a few more Weeks of riding her, I passed my direct access, so I've just invested in a CBR600RR, another fantastic bike
But like everyone is saying any 4 stroke and better still, go to a few bike shops, have a sit on some the 125's they have and you'll know which feels right
I did it, fell in love with how the NSR felt, then went thumbing through the local paper for someone selling one, as for price, well it depends on the year of the bike and then there's the mileage, any damage, tax and test, it just depends how much you wanna pay

Good luck x

I have a Honda CG 125cc and I think she's great! Easy to drive and very economical. She was new and when I have finished paying in three years time will be £2000. It's a good bike because when it needs fixing it will be easy to get the parts, if you buy a less well known brand you might have difficulty getting the parts later on.

I think you should pass your CBT and motorbike test on your 125cc. Then you ride your 125cc for two years and after that, you can ride whatever you like provided you are over 21. 125cc lessons tend to be cheaper and you will know that you'll be ready for it when you move to a bigger bike. Also you can practise on the same bike all the time, making you feel more comfortable on test day.

Good luck! Wish me luck with my motorbike test too!

Go for an easy to ride four stroke 125, don't fall into the trap thinking you need an Aprillia RS125 2 stroke that needs its tacho needle in the red before it comes alive, start out slowly then get yourself a turbo Busa after a few years experience. As for how much to pay is a case of trawling through the adds and judging for yourself.

any of the newer 125's are pretty good, 1998 up to now... I bought 2 Suzuki rm125's for my boys and paid $1500 each , one was 98 the other was a 2000 , they're out there don't get in a hurry and keep your eyes open

Honda CG125, expect to pay around £400 for a 1990 ish and it goes up.. Look on ebay. Most Cg125's look tatty but the engines fair well

Yamaha SR125, expect to pay about £400 upwards, its a custom and idea for small riders.

Suzuki GN125, expect to pay about £500, again its custom ideal for small riders

Yamaha YBR125 ( yami's CG125!!)

Honda CBR125 ( sporty little bike on the same lines as the NSR125)

Avoid Chinese bikes like Chituma, Hongdou, or anything that looks like a Japanese copy, as they are poor build and low performers.

I would recomend you take your cbt(if not done) and do DAS on a bigger bike like say a Suzuki GS500.

If your over 21 don't bother. Do your cbt on a hire bike then put straight in for your Direct Access. Then get yourself a 600 either a Fazer or Hornet. If your under 21 then it's got to the cg125.Don't spend anymore than £800 on a second hand one.

take a look on ebay at the 125's there, the jailings are made in china, have a honda cg125 engine in and cost the same new as a secondhand honda. i know a few people that have bought them and they have had no problem whatsoever, they are 4 stroke, no mot for three years as they are brand new and some dealers even chuck in a helmet and gloves.

NSR125 fox eye model ( 2000 on ) good ride and it will do the manoeuvres which you will need to perform to pass your full licence test , I rode 1 for about a year before passing my test and it was brilliant even got pulled because the coppers thought it was a bigger bike . I used it daily commuting about 80 miles and it never let me down . As for cost look on eBay a half decent 1 will set you back anything from about £1200 to £3500 depending on year and mileage but shop around and you'll get a good deal .

do not listen to these fool
the best 125 on the market is the 2005 dt125x otherwise known as the dt125r sm you can pick these up between 1600- 2000 go for the totally standard ones coz they havent been abused like the derestricted ones.
beware of cheap imitations like SKYJET, HYOSUNG also the cagivo mitos are crap
