Have you ever TRIED singing in front of people before ? Or is it just your OWN opinion that you can't sing ? And even if you can't, PRACTICING a lot will help - most voices improve a lot with practice. Don't expect miracle or super-fast results, though.
If you can hold a note or at least sort-of stay on it, then you're better than average already. Even though you might not have a great voice, the majority of people won't know the difference anyway because most people do not have very musical ears.
If you REALLY can't sing then find something else you are good in. Different people have different talents.
If you are sure that you can't really sing and you know you are fat then you will probably WORSEN your self-esteem by going on stage to sing (children can be quite cruel, and they might just make fun of you).
Also, a lot of talents might only develop later.
Don't lose hope. I only started singing when I was 21. And I had a late puberty so most of my schooldays don't really make fond memories - being bullied, etc. Everything changed in college.

There have been lots of actors in musicals who don't sing that well, but are able to "act" the songs. Sarah Jessica Parker admitted she didn't have the belt voice for Annie, but she acted the heck out of the part. Rosie O'Donnell is not a great singer, but has been in Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, and Seussical. If you know the part and approach it with the attitude, "This role is mine", that will take you a long way.
I am sorry, some of these answers make me angry. There is room for many different body types in theatre. How about Hairspray? If you want to try, then DO it regardless of what anyone tells you.

Dear, if you cannot sing then you cannot sing. You don't try out for a musical play if you CANNOT sing. You're being fat can be remedied by diet and exercise, but singing is something you can either do naturally or you can't. Sure, one can take voice lessons, but the talent has to be there from the get go.

At this late date you are probably in trouble for the try out.
If you are really set on the attempt, tell them you have laryngitis and lip sync one of the tunes. If they like you, you could lip sync the whole show!
If you are interested in performing, better get on a little diet and get yourself a voice and acting coach. You can be in competiton with kids who have been training seven years or more!

If you cannot sing, don't embarass yourself. Wait for a part with a non-singing role!
