"I think most people live in a fiction. I'm no exception. Think of it in terms of a car's transmission. It's like a transmission that stands between you and the harsh realities of life. You take the raw power from outside and use gears to adjust it so everything's all nicely in sync. That's how you keep your fragile body intect."
Haruki Murakami, "Sputnik Sweetheart"

98% true. I do think there is a reality that we are unable to comprehend, so we create a fiction or a story that makes some sense to us. But I don't think reality is as harsh as some people think it is and I don't view my body as being fragile. Life is like a river and although my boat is small, it's made to be in the water.

Maybe some people live in fiction - but I tend to think of people like that as flakes. There is one reality you cannot escape (unless you are crazy). The reality of death. There is no way around it. No matter what you do - you can not live in fiction when you loose someone close to you. The pain is to intense - and you cannot make it go away.

Some people believe we each create our own version of reality; that there isn't one single reality for each of us to become aware of in our own particular way, and that we individually and collectively dreamt up the reality which we experience.

This is a concept know as "Personal Reality"

I agree with it to an extent. Certainly everyone lives within their own narrative which is a simplified and exaggerated account of the events in their lives. However I don't think it is really fiction, just a simplification.

It's an analogy for dealing with reality. Maybe a little overstated, but accurate.

No. I live in Reality. If most of us live in fiction..that would be reality..and the people who live in reality would be weird.
I'm not sure if you followed that..lol

You've got to stop reading mechanics' books. Get into love stories, comedies, etc.

Life, whether you're reading or dreaming is real.
