Let us assume for a moment that the universe we live in is finite, it means everything we could learn about anything is found within the boundary of our universe therefore knowledege itself is finite. What do you think will happen to us if someday (it could be thousand to milliion years from now) there's no more question to ask, there's no mystery to solve and total understanding of everything is achieved. Can you picture what kind of society the mankind will have?

We could form a society completely dedicated to artistic expression, which I believe is infinite in scope.

The IF seems impossible for a democratic society. I cannot imagine a society that is or will be able to know the exact sequence and content of my intimate thoughts 2 hours or even 1 minute ago. Even i cannot remember it exactly, unless i mark it. Not to say long time after i am dead, incinerated and dispersed.

If in free society the absurd is possible, then...no probability maths, no gambling, no intimacy, no creativity, very strictly unified thinking - therefore no individuals anymore, but becoming one super organism, therefore no society anymore.

My real answer however, is that this absurd situation is possible today - that is how a dictature works. It needs to forbid and inhibit free thinking in order to survive - keeping absolute sociological stability. The members of the society are brainwashed - think Nazi, Inquisition, Communism, Theocracies, 1984 Big brother, to believe that all is known. Such societies are tristly known and well described.

The dictator and his secret service (the think police) is not part of the society and the only one that knows he does not know everything. The moment he believes he knows everything, the system collapses.

Many people have already given there ideas about what this future would hold. Have you ever seen star trek, do you know about the Q. If not here's a brief explanation. The Q where an eternal race of ultimate beings, who knew all, felt all, could control all, and see all in the universe, physical or other. They could control time and space and could pop a person out of existence. I think that is what society would be like, if knowledge was eternal and accessible. They were also united with each other and at peace, although there was one who was mischievous in his youth.

mmm, on the sidewalk of that road...just yesterday I was reading about t guy and a group of fairly peaceful people were discussing being all-powerful; and within a couple of hours they were fighting about it.
Whatever being got there, I doubt it could be called "mankind". I think such a knowledge would have to come about peacefully.
However, they say that Satan is not peaceful and yet very smart.

To your question...What happens when the roller coaster ride is over? You're back to square-one. Perhaps they will start a new human species at square-one, and wait for them to catch up.

The answer to this other question will never be found in this universe: why do we exist (i.e., for what reason or purpose, not how we came to be). Those who hold religious faith will usually say that there is some sort of purpose; atheists subscribe to the idea that existence is a meaningless property of the universe (they have to believe this). Society will always have people wondering for what possible purpose they exist. Science does not attempt to answer that question--it cannot.

Anyone who believes this will ever happen simply doesn't understand Gödels Incompleteness Theorem or the contemporary interpretation of Quantum Mechanics ☺

but we are constantly giving birth to new generations and everyone thinks differently. i'm sure there'll be one person that invents something new or something like that. but we only use 7%ish of our brain's, so i don't think it's possible to learn everything. we stop learning as well the older we get, so for people to know everything would be very difficult. if society could learn EVERYTHING, then we'd be extremely advanced i guess. we'd probably wipe ourselves out b/c we'd go to war and see who can nuke who first.
