I have a whole bunch of best friends. Two from high school and they live in Washington and London, UK. One in Oregon and one in Texas, where I live now.
No matter how long I've been apart from these girls or how long it's been since we last talked, it's like it's only been one day.

Personally, I really dislike rigid thinking and thinkers.
A person should have as many "good friends" as they want. Those that insist on being the "favorite" or "best" are just insecure and annoying.
I have friends I like to go to the theatre with, others for sporting events, some for a game of poker, couple friends with my wife, etc. There are people I could spend a week with and others a day is too long. Doesn't mean I like them any more or less.

At any one time you can only have one best friend. He/she is top of the pile with others in a pyramid shape below. A wise old man once told me that if someone tells you that they have more friends than fingers they are lying. If you can count your true friends on the fingers of one hand you are doing well. My best friend of 43 years died a couple of years ago and I still miss him greatly. Not sadly, oddly enough, just miss him. My wife of nearly 40 years is now my best friend with other friends being close at hand............

Yes you can, I consider all of my really close friends my best friends. That stuff only counts when you are younger. I would tell your friend to get over it because if she thinks you can only have one best friend then she is going to be awfully lonely one of these days.

You could be right and your friend could be too. It depends on your definition of "best friend".

best is a subjective term, but it is a superlative term and its hard to have a tie in a subjective competition.
