I would have to agree with a few of the other answers. Most likely due to taxes and the economic status that marriage brings. I will admit that I am gay and I would like to get married. I think I may end up just having a civil union ceremony due to the close-mindedness of the legal system currently. There seem to be a large number of people that don't have an issue with a gay person getting married.....why can't all those that don't have a problem with it....tell your senators and congressmen and get the laws passed. If enough people tell them how they feel, things can change. They are there to do as we the voting public tell them to...right????

Only reason i cant think of that a gay person would be against marriage rights is if that gay guy .. just like alot of straight guys...didnt want to worry about having to be Married, and if they divorce having to pay alimony or splitting up property ect.. if the marriage isnt seen as legal then they dont have to worry about any of that stuff..

good question!
i am straight, but i am for gay marriage because i believe that all people should be treated equally. and when two individuals decide to form a legal union in expression of their commitment and love for one another, what does that have to do with anyone else?
if i were gay, my views would be the same.
the only reason a gay person might be against gay marriage would be because they don't want to marry their partner, but their partner does want to marry them. which is stupid. why should that person sacrifice the rights of others so that they don't have to fess up to their partner that they "aren't the marrying type"?

I think a lot of gay men don't want marriage rights. Once legal, there would be pressure put on some by their partners to do it. Then they would get to air all their dirty laundry in court and pay lawyers and such if they broke up. They could pay more in taxes by filing married.
Right now they can cross the health care benefits and other lines without the other stuff. I think most of the ones who fight for it are still looking for the thing they will never truly have, acceptance of their sexual behavior.

Some gay people are entrenched in a religion that does not advocate homosexuality and they have to reconcile the conflict somehow. So they say "i'm gay- i have no choice about that. but i can choose not to support gay rights because although i can't help homosexuality, it's still wrong."
That's the most likely explanation. Sad, isn't it?

If I was gay I would not get married myself, but I would not be against those who do.

Maybe that person isn't really gay then but otherwise I have no idea. If I was gay I would be for it. I'm straight and I'm still all for it.

Maybe they are just against marriage in general. I'm against marriage for my personal reasons, but that doesn't mean i'm against other marrying.

I'm not gay so I can't answer this question. I believe in The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit and my bible tells me that my Father created Adam and Eve. Point being, I don't believe men should be married to men and women should be married to women and I'm not judging anyone because we all have to answer to a Higher Power. I'm just saying what I don't do.
