You need to calculate the approximate cost per adult yourself. You must consider:
(1) US Passport $67 (not including cost of 2 required photos);
(2) Roundtrip airfare (coach or first class);
(3) Are you visiting only one city? What city?
(4) Number of nights at hotel? What kind of hotel accommodation--moderate or luxury? It will determine the location of your hotel (good or if-y neighborhood, near or far from tourist sites);
(5) Are you renting a car?
(6) Cost of food (restaurants)?
(7) Are you going to use a tour guide?
(8) Cost of entry fees to museums and pyramids, etc?
(9) Exchange rate of dollar for Egyptian money at time of travel.
Use Expedia.com to plan a trip for one adult. Just sign in as a guest; so that you don't have to commit to it.

Booking in advance.. good airfare... would be around 700 or so hundred per person. All figures in USD .So figure about 3500 for the plane tickets assuming you book in advance and are not going round major holidays.

Hotel.. A decent hotel in Cario would cost you less then in most major cities. Figure 150/per night per room. So assuming you get 2 rooms, your looking at about 300/nt.. and if you stay 6 nights? you are looking at 1800 for the hotel.

Figure 50 per day per person for food so thats about 200 a day for food ...times 6 days is about 800 for food.

The tack on maybe another hundred for taxis and transfers.

So your at about 6000-6500.. and then you have to add the cost of additional tours or activities you would want.

First, a US passport if you don't have one is at least $90.
One cheaper way if you aren't using a tour company is to book a hotel and airfare combination from www.orbitz.com.
The tour company I am using is Grand European Tours www.getours.com
You can do a combo air and tour with them. I saved about $300 booking my own air as I am flying from Seattle. The land tour alone as well as the combo air is pretty reasonable, especially since it includes several meals and entry fees.
