When Hollyoaks first started it was quite good. It was refreshing to have a teen soap and over the years they have had some good characters and storylines and certainly tackle many social issues like alchohol/drug abuse, bullying, homelessness, one parent families, debts etc which is a good thing as many teenagers may experience some of these issues and may not know how to deal with. More often than not, teenagers will identify with these characters and can at least recognise there is help out there and call one of the helplines they give out after episodes.

However like most soaps they sometimes stretch out storylines too much which become far fetched and recently the new cast have come breezing in like they own the show, its all gone v.poor man's O.C. The Hollyoaks late night shows are even worse, drab stories with v.bad acting.

Every programme has its shelf life and I agree this one expired a few years ago and has become stale.

I think i must be in the minority, Hollyoaks years ago was totally rubbish but over the past 3 years it has dealt with some real life issues from drug rape, murder, sexual abuse, inappriopate relationships in school and domestic violence. Since the demise of brookside more money has been invested in the show. Also with spin off shows like Hollyoaks in the City. They have shown people how easy spiking of drinks can lead to drug rape and how addicaitons can form as a result of the hurt. I think hollyoaks has come a long way and should be recognised as so.
