Ok i can give you two things to do if you dont want to tell them and dont want no confrontation when they wanna hang out on weekends or during the week tell them you have plans pretty much slowly start cutting them outta your life i did that once and it worked my friend didnt get offended she just thought we were becoming too diffrent to be friends option 2 tell them honestly that you dont like the way they have been acting and no hard feeling but you just rather be there aquaintence and not be so close anymore if there mature they will understand. You really don't need to tell them anything. Just stay away from them. They'll get the hint. You don't want to start any sh*t byt talking to them. If they were your friends they wouldn't be talking about you behind your back.
If they regret what they've done because you've been ignoring them and at least say there sorry give them a second chance other wise forget about them and don't worry what others think of you because of stupid rumors. And don't play there game and spread rumors back. Be the better person. If someone says something just say its not true. And thats that.

The next time one of them tries to talk to you just be like "Do I know you? Last time I checked I didn't associate with b*tches that spread rumors because they have no lives" Then laugh and walk away. I'm pretty sure they would get the point that way :)

Tell them how you feel. Tell them to stop spreading rumors about you or you will not be there friend. If they don't stop just tell them your friendship is over.

In this world we seem to have so many friendships but very few genuine ones.
The type of friends your asking about are the type who only use us, they make fun of us because we have it made in their minds and they don't.. they also know how to fake sincereity and get away with it too. Life to them is just an act of deceit, selfishness and a way for them to be lazy...
Remember, 99% of the population is like this. The genuine people are the ones we want to be with because they don't ask us for anything because they have all the self esteem, self confidence and self worth to get anything material they want and need for themselves... They only want us to be happy no matter what and only want the very best for us always too... and when we are with them, we can grow as individuals without being judged... they accept us as we are.... and most of all, they allow us to be ourselves without worry.
Now about finding genuine people... they make up the 1% of the population that we so desperately want to locate and be around... are best found with interests that are near and dear to us... join a group or organization that truly believes that people come first no matter what and you'll also find genuine people too. They are not the type that go to bars but will go with a group of trusted friends only to have a fun evening out though... they are the type of people who run businesses... often CEO's or people who are higherup's or who have their own businesses are like this... because they believe that people are always first.

Tell them why you don't care for them once, then ignore them. It works. In general, people hate being ignored. So this makes them feel bad as they did to you. If they try tactics to "round up a group" against you, I'd say, ignore them all...
This will eventually let the "cream rise to the top" so to say. Those who are honest and genuine should stand out quite clear.

Just stop being around them. If they don't understand that you can tell them that you don't hang around with people that spread rumors about you behind your back. Try to be specific and non-emotional about why they don't measure up to your standards for friends.
They will have something rude to say about it.

don't scream. don't cuss. very calmly, say "l need to talk to you both in private. It's very important."
tell them that you know that they are spreading rumors about you, and you don't want to be friends with them anymore because real friends do not act like that.
then find some more mature, sincere companionship.

Anyone who spreads rumors about you, and hurts your feelings, is not your friend.

Don't say anything--if you do it will only fuel their rumors. Be polite to them, but stop hanging out with them or talking on the phone--always have something better to do.
