The same things happened today that happened at the '02 Championships and the '04 Olympics:

1) Lack of team cohesiveness

2) Inability to defend simple plays like the pick-and-roll because they have no idea how to defend anything but one-on-one situations. The NBA has spoiled these guys, and they looked lost in their own end of the court today.

3) Lack of fundamentals - Too many bad shots, not enough "extra" passes, and an inability to shoot free throws.

4) Better competition - This isn't just about the U.S. losing, but about Greece winning. They are the European champions, and they've become a great basketball country. Same goes for Argentina, Spain, and a couple of others whose skill level approaches that of the Americans, and whose fundamentals are superior.

5) Poor coaching - Coach K can win with college studs, but he was way out of his element today. He should have made defensive adjustments and failed to do so, and he should stick to the NCAAs.

Team basketball beats great athletes every time.

It's not about experience or lame excuses. The US game is now about dunking and individual play. The foreign game is played the right way; the way we used to play it.

Good basketball is team defense, shooting and passing and moving without the ball. The NBA is about 4 guys standing out of the way while one guy tries to take his man off of the dribble.

The US team can't shoot outside the key; can't make free throws (20 out of 34? jr. high girls do better.); and can't play team defense. They look good and dunk great. That's the NBA game of today.

US basketball has gone down hill big time.

Lack of international experience as a team. International teams live off the pick and roll, and our guys just didn't defend well against it. They gave up 101 points to a team with no one currently in the NBA. The poor shooting hurt them too, and with no domainant big guy to anchor the team, they don't have much of an inside game to offset the poor shooting.

The US is no longer a threat in international basketball. We can put together the best team imaginable, but unless we can shoot 60% from the perimeter...we have no chance in international play!

Too many so-called pros with ego problems that refuse to be coached, and a failure to execute old-fashioned basketball basics. The U.S. pros will always have a difficult time beating great teams outside the U.S., basketball has been ruined.
