I am a sixteen year old girl with a dream to become a semi-truck driver... Any tips on how to get there?

No speeding tickets yet, but I don't drive - as of yet. What are the future steps I should take? Thanks in advance.

Hi my name is Sara and my husband is a truck driver. The best place to start is looking up on the internet the closest truck driving school near you. You have to have at least a four-six week course. However, by law you have to be at least 21 to drive trucks. So be sure to finish high school first.

you have to wait till you are 18 to be able to do anything, there are truck driving schools all over but they arent cheap and if you go thru a company you arent looking to make anything really for the first year or so. being a trucker is a hard thing. alot of companys want someone with over the road experience of at least 2 years. you have to like to drive and not mind not being able to shower everyday because you are always on a schedule. i was a truckers wife but i know that life wasnt for me.

After you get your HS diploma, there are schools you can attend specifically to learn to become a truck driver.

The career opportunities for truck drivers are growing! The pay is getting better, too. Your future looks very bright.

I would think you will have to wait til you are 18 at least. Then just call a numbet on the back of a trucking line! They all advertise for drivers on the back of the trucks.

In our dreams maybe. In real life working 15 hour shifts doesn't leave much time for anything else. These days when parked up it seems to be pot noodles and either the computer or TV. In you Dad's time there was more social life to lorry driving but the pay was poor. It was common to spend the evenings in pubs or cafés but most drivers were just of for a laugh and a chat.

I dont know what the age is to do this, but you might have to be 18. Go to a truck driving school in your area. That'd be the place to start. Look in the yellowpages.com or online and you should be able to find some in your area.

Study the CDL book while you're waiting for the appropriate age to drive a semi and keep the driving record clean.

Get a manual trans car so you get comfortable with shifting even before truck driving school. Learn to shift without the clutch, especially downshifts.
