It can be from North , Central or Sounth America. It can also be a tribe that doesn't exist any more due to being wiped out or taken over by another tribe. It just has to have existed before the signing of the Declaration of Independace in 1776.

The word tribe has many meanings. With the Indians, it was a confederation of sub-tribes. With the European invaders, it was every group of Indians or aboriginals that gave themselves a separate name.

Estimates of sub-tribes (or tribes to you) were that as of 1776 in the Americas, there were over a million separate groups.
