Not recommended because it involves bloodletting.

I am still reeling from something I saw at Wandsworth Bridge Road, Fulham, London about 6 years ago: I went to buy the Sunday paper and some bread, and there was a heavily tattooed man crossing the street, holding the hand of his (maybe) 5-year-old son, who also had numerous tattoos on his arms.

I have not seen tattoos in the same light since.

ha! I asked the same thing. The tattoo artist said that some will do it, but he wouldn't because it can very easily get infected, which is not good for you or the baby, and that it was too much trauma to the body while your pregnant.

Don't let the others that are yelling at you about this bother you. I figured it wouldn't be a good idea but I asked anyways.

And you can donate blood if you have tattoo's as long as you haven't had one in the past three years I think it is. At least that's what I have been told.

I looked it up, you will most likley be turned down if you want to give blood after getting a tattoo within the last 12 months from the time you are applying to donate. So there, you don't even have to wait three years after getting a tattoo to donate blood.

Man, people on here can be so rude!!

Can I get a tattoo while pregnant or nursing?
It is not advisable to get a tattoo while pregnant or nursing, though it is unlikely getting a tattoo will hurt the fetus or nursing infant. The problem will be in the quality of the tattoo. While pregnant the body is working overtime and the tattoo will possibly heal harder and possibly result in a light tattoo. Additionally, while pregnant many women put on extra weight that will come off after the pregnancy. The extra weight will cause the tattoo to be distorted once the weight is lost. While nursing a woman's body produces antibodies that are to be passed to the infant. If tattooed while these extra antibodies are in the system the tattoo may heal harder and possibly result in a light tattoo. If your desire is to get the best quality tattoo I suggest that you wait until the pregnancy and nursing are completed and then get the tattoo. If you decide to go ahead and get the tattoo while pregnant or nursing please consult your tattoo friendly physician first.

In addition to the skin alterations given by CCTCC, There are issues with the dyes. You could have an allergic ton an ingredient in the dye or the Tattoo can become infected during the healing process. Any of those things could cause harm to your fetus and possibly lead to miscarriage. Needle contamination is not an issue in any reputable shop. Its another story if you are visiting Cousin Mel's back room. When you go to get a tattoo, you have to sign a waiver stating you are not pregnant.

You must be very young if you are asking such a question. Number one, why would you even be thinking of getting a tattoo while pregnant and not wait? Do you not know that a tattoo is permanent ink which is going into your body/blood stream? Anything that you put in your body goes to your child??? Honey, you should worry about learning how to be a good mother, the beginning starts the minute that your child is IN the womb, not after - - It is a shame that god made ALL women to have the privilege of conceiving!!!!

You would be taking a chance if you got a tattoo, so I wouldn't.
I think tattoos are too permanent anyway! In Style, there is NOTHING I like at 54 that I did at 24! When I am ( I hope) 84 I won't like the style of now.

So pregnant or not , I would never do it again....if you decide that you do indeed want one....for your childs sake i would wait till he or she is born...

You have to be concerned about needle transmissions of anything. The slightest infection when you are pregnant can cause fever, etc. Your body needs to nourish that baby, not heal your self-inflicted wounds. Get one after the baby is born. But, don't get all sappy and get Winnie-the-Pooh or Barney or something. The kid is going to grow up, you know.

No, for the same reason you cannot give blood after getting a tattoo. The ink enters your blood stream. Duh!
I hope to god you are not a single, alone, parent. If you are I feel sorry for your kid.
