Johnson and Clinton were empeached by the House but neither was removed from office by the Senate. Nixon was not impeached, he resigned before that action was taken.

Andrew Johnson was impeached by the House, but was acquitted by the Senate by 3 votes of 35 -19.

Bill Clinton was impeached, but was acquitted by the Senate in 2 votes: 55-45 and 50-50 (a two thirds majority is required to remove the President).

The 2 presidents impeached have been Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. However, none were removed from office. Richard Nixon was not impeached, he resigned before he was impeached, but if he had not resigned I think that he would have become the first president to have been removed from office.
Hope this helps and good luck with your packet!!!!!

I am upset at seeing SO MANY answers saying "Nixon". Nixon was NOT impeached. He resigned. That's it, end of story about Nixon. Why is the younger generation so stupid regarding this question? You must be young, otherwise you would KNOW Nixon was not impeached. Very disappointed.

* Andrew Johnson was impeached in 1868 after violating the then-newly created Tenure of Office Act. Johnson was acquitted of all charges by a single vote in the Senate.
* Bill Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998 by the House of Representatives on grounds of perjury to a grand jury (by a 228–206 vote) and obstruction of justice (by a 221–212 vote). Two other articles of impeachment failed — a second count of perjury in the Jones case (by a 205–229 vote), and one accusing Clinton of abuse of power (by a 148–285 vote). He was acquitted by the Senate.

Just to clarify.... they were all impeached only Nixon left office prior to being removed from office however they were all impeached and faced criminal charges for treason to the US. However have never had a president criminally charged during or after leaving office and thats all I am going to say bout it...put that in your report and smoke it...lol
