I was JUST cleaning out his bowl, and I had my betta fish in a smaller bowl. My dad noticed my little brother sticking his hand in this little fish bowl bigging my betta!!! I noticed at the bottom of the little fish bowl some fins!!!! MY poor Harvey looks like he is in pain. he isn't bleeding, but he is not moving, and his head is pointing towards the top, while his tail is hanging down. HE ISN'T MOVING!~~!! wat can i do, and QUICK!!

**sighs* ok thank you everyone for your help. I transfered my Harvey into his clean bowl, i added some Conditioner and other things especially for bettas to help him heal. He's actually swimming around normally now. I guess he was in a terrible shock for a few minutes!

People forget just how tough Bettas are. They will live to be somewhere between 3 to 5 years old with good care (5 years being really old).

If your little bro did something to tear his fins off do not worry - fish have fins removed all the time (even ornamental ones like Bettas).

He will be fin, and fins will grow back over his years of life.

No worries - just give him clean water, good O2, and a plant or 2 to hide in/around and he will be happy and fine.

A little bit of salt (1/4 tsp to 8 oz) in water the same temp as his bowl for about 10 mins should make the Betta feel better. (Pun intended).

Betta's are fighting fish and will regenerate their fins if they don't get an infection.

Betta fins are delicate things. Something as simple as an edge on a plastic plant, or ordainment. On the other hand they will likely grow back. Treatment is just:

0)Clean water (avoid rapid changes in temp when changing his water.)
1)Add 1 teaspoon of table salt per 2.5 gallons
2)An antibacterial treatment like Melaleuca Melafix, or bettafix.

If he flips upside down and starts floating topside, grab him by the tail and dip him up and down in the water. This will push water through his gills, like CPR for fish. See if that helps, but ONLY if he starts floating upside-down. He might just be a little freaked right now and hoping that if he holds still enough, nobody will bother him. If you stress him uneccessarily at this time, he may very well keel over on you. Next time keep your betta where your little brother can't bother him while you're cleaning the bowl.

If you have any slime protectant, de-stresser kind of stuff it wouldn't hurt to put some drops in his bowl. But he's probably just in shock right now, you'll just have to wait and see how he does. I had a goldfish that got plucked out of its bowl by my cat, the fish was on the floor with ripped fins without water for seriously, over a half hour. I thought the cat ate him but when I found him I saw he was still gasping, and I tossed him back in the bowl, and he was fine.

rush to the pet store and ask for advice. Put stress coat in, and make shure he eats VERY healthy food. Get some anti-bacteria or fungus drops to put in, so his ripped fins dont become infected. Keep his water VERY clean, untill his fins are repared. DONT LET UR LITTLE BRO DO THAT AGAIN!!!
