in uk we are taxed on our earnings and charged tax yet again on everything we then buy - legal robbery in my opinion! Inheritance tax - you pay tax all your life, pay stamp duty when u buy the house, anything u make on house pay tax again and when u die the house is passed to next of kin and they pay 40% inheritance when they sell!

I agree I hate tax, but money to run the country has to come from somewhere, and the system is a lot less unfair than the media care to tell you, as if they were honest they wouldn't be interesting and so wouldn't sell any papers!! I personally think that the tax level should be dropped to 18% and a new level of 50% added to earnings over 150K. Who has the right to that sort of money when there are others starving out there? and remember thinhgs like inheritance tax don't even start til you get either 250K or 500K, then you pay it on amounts OVER that, not on the whole lot as the media have you believe.

I'd rather have higher vat and lower income tax as then it would be a more personal choice as to how much tax I wanted to pay (ie I could choose not to buy something).

Inheritance tax is a very bad tax.......... too many folk have been caught out by it in recent times.

How do you work out you pay tax on your house when you sell it? If it is your principal private residence you shouldn't pay tax when you sell - if you have had a "buy to let" or second home you'll probably pay tax on that sale though (unless you go live in it for a while before you sell of course).

The only time that this madness will stop is when we the TAX PAYERS refuse to pay and unite to demand change. I can't see it happening so until then we all pay up. Government and Dick Turpin, no difference really

This is as opposed to

National health service, subsidised dental treatment, education for our children, pension when you get older (i know its crap, but at least you will get the basics) rubbish collection every week, fire service, national defence, etc etc etc.

Where do you think all these things would come from if you were not taxed - Father Christmas!!!!
