If a aluminum cylinder head is cracked between the "intake" and "exhaust" valves, what is the best method of repairing it? Do you tig weld it or drill and plug the crack? Or, is there something else that I don't know of? Please explain which method is better and why? Thanks.

I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend. Buying a new head will be costly but if the crack it not to bad you can get a freind who welds to repair it to new condition. The only reason I know is that I had this done on a Toyota Tacoma and it is still running.

It's sucking air! Looks like Dad's missed something, there's a pipe that runs from the cam box and splits into two pipes, one large goes to the underside of the air filter housing, the other smaller diameter goes to a stub on the inlet manifold, if either of these is off,or holed or broken the engine will suck air in through these, and this air is not measured by the air flow meter so the fuel air mix is all to hell. so check that pipe, check the inlet manifold and anywhere else between the AFM and the throttle body.

When the head is cracked, it is trash!! Replace it. It is too much work to replace a head, only to have to do it again when the "repair" fails!!
