A doctor can write their own prescription, except for a "controlled substance"...at that point another doctor has to write the prescription for them.

another doctor dose it but it is seen as better pracitse if a doctor with more experance or as an higher level to write it eg: if a registar is sick a consltant would to the prescription not a jr house officer

Just like us - other doctors write out the prescriptions. I've also heard that they have some kinda benefit sch as free consultation or something like that.

When Drs and Gps are un well and need prescriptions they are not allowed to write there own perscriptions its against the law and they will get suspended over this.All Gps and Drs have there own Gps to see when they are ill,they are also not allowed to have a Gp in there practice.

I think they can't write out prescriptions for themselves or near kin so it would have to be another doctor.

In the UK it is illegal to 'treat' yourself or family, so must be registered at an alternative GP surgery, but who checks? I know of a case where the GP's wife demanded a prescription!
