Im in the state of California, i don't know if every state is different, but anyway, I was sent home from work early due to illness, here let me explain.
I was taken to the emergency room, picked up by ambulance @ work, this happened on a thursday around 1pm., did not come in friday, & returned 2 work on Monday. I came in @ 8am, @ around 10am, the office mgr told me that I couldnt be @ work, that i needed a dr's note saying i was ok to come back to work. So i went to the hospital, hoping they'd give me a quick note, they told me that i had to check in as a patient wait 4hrs so i could get a note or i could call my dr & have him give me a note. I called my dr's office, but they had to set up an appt. Anyway, I didn't return to work 'til the next day. Did the company (my workplace) have the right to send me home & not pay me, or should I have at least gotten paid 4hrs that day? I heard that if u show up to work, that they're required to pay min. of 4 hrs. Thanks 4 ur time!

I live in Arkansas, A co-worker of mine was ready to come back to work. She showed up for her shift and worked for 2hrs before being sent home. Her doc. had not released her. The company's insurance would not cover her, until her doc released her. She didn't even get paid for the 2 hrs. I'm sure legally she should have been paid for at least the 2 hrs but how can she prove she was even there.(no time clock) The company's are going to cover there ***. especially wear the Government or insurance company's are concerned.

I assume you are hourly. If so, you are only paid for the time you work. If you are salary, then you should have sick time. They did have the right to require a Dr's release given that you were taken away in an ambulance, they want to make sure you're not going to drop dead on them. If you want clarification on the issue, call the California Labor Board. Their number is listed in the phone book under State Government.

The Family and Medical Leave Act provides for unpaid time off.

Depending on what you were ill for, they do have the right to get a dr's note to have you come back. And they do have to pay you for the time that you were there and working (2 hours)
