I just don't understand. How does it go on? How does it stay on? How long does it stay on for? How do you fix mid-day shine? Why are there like, a thousand different "corrector" colors? What's a makeup veil?

Mineral makeup has both pluses and minuses. Some it looks like they have perfectly air-brushed skin and others it looks caked on. I would have to say that it does matter what brand you try. I used bare ecscentuals for a little bit, and it was nothing special then I tried Jane Iredale and it worked wonders.

Mineral makeup is suppose to diminish breakouts and you can sleep in it (proving I guess that it's safe on skin) and has no talc (stuff most foundations or concealers have that tend to break out skin)

A makeup veil is like the finishing touch. Pretend the foundation is liquid and the veil is the loose powder you put on to seal your makeup.

Properly applied it can look very natural and fresh.
I like Jane Iredale best and if I need a little concealer I use that (Illuminare is great). I use a foundation brush (there are many you can choose from to give good coverage). Otherwise you can use a special sponge for that purpose. You can read about those products online. Shine-wise you can using blotting paper or you can tap on a little more of the minerals. Sometimes in a pinch I will use regular compact powder like Shine-Free.
As for blush, I use a powder for blendability.
I have tried Bare Escentuals but it leaves the face rather shiny. I use up the BE and then brush some JI over the top. I never wear liquid makeup anymore.

People that are not getting good results are probably using the "wrong" mineral makeup or applying incorrectly.

Don't bother with it. It only works for a select few people, the rest of us look dry and cakey. The "veil" is a powder for the powder...yup, the mineral foundation is a powder and then you're supposed to dust the veil over that as you would with a loose powder and a liquid foundation. A tactic to sell more. What I don't understand is why so many people like it, it's a mess and doesn't look natural at all!
