If your foundation is mineral-oil based, it can suffocate your skin.(mineral oil being in most of your drug-store products) Take some baby oil, put it in a cup and dunk a cracker or cookie in it. Leave it in there a minute for good measure. Then dunk the exposed part in water. No water will absorb into the craker because it's coated in oil. Try it!!!
There are products that are not mineral-oil based, and will be better for your skin. The more you change products, and throw the PH of your skin off, the more unhappy it will be, there are a lot of ways to make your skin unhappy- but I don't know if 'damage' is the right word to use.
One of the worst things you can do though- not washing your face at night. If there is anything you do regulary- make sure you wash your face- and use a moisturizer!!!!

Yes, makeup can damage your skin!! I see a dermatologist and I asked him about wearing makeup and he explained to me that makeup can damage your skin. It can clog your pores which causes all types of damage from your skin.
As you get older you will notice that your skin is not the same as it used to be. A lot of women actually don't wear makeup and their skin looks fine.

TRUST the people who say it damages your skin.
When I was in college I knew about 40 girls who were studying cosmetics, and they were practicing on each other all the time. By the end of the 2nd year they had BY FAR the worst skins of all the girls in college.
Yes, it clogs pores, which 1) causes build-up of toxins in your skin and 2) prevents decent hydration of your skin. Your skin really does need to "breathe" by getting rid of those toxins and getting oxygen by osmosis. Oh, and everytime you wash the make-up off you get rid of the normal healthy hydrating layer that feeds your skin. And when you put on make-up too soon after taking off the previous layer, there's no time for that layer to even form...

I think you hit the main points. I can't think of any "damage" per se that make-up itself would cause, but I think bad hygiene associated with its use would not be good for the skin -- for example, not properly cleaning it all off at the end of the day can lead to clogged pores (not to mention yucky pillow cases!), and using dirty applicator brushes or old mascara might cause some irritation but no permanent damage.
Hope this helps.
