I already checked some answers to similar questions:
Basically, my computer (AMD FX-51, WD Raptor 75gig HD, two optical drives, 1G RAM, Radeon AIW 9800 video card) will hang a few minutes after it boots up. Occasionally it doesn't even get through Windows start-up befoe it hangs. Sometimes it doesn't even complete the BIOS portion. Therefore I am inclined to blame hardware. I already removed and re-installed RAM sticks and boards (video board and Fax board).Possibilities:
1) bad RAM?
2) bad power supply?
3) bad CPU cooling (fan is running, but haven't reseated it)
4) corrupted BIOS (how would I fix that???)
5) hard-drive on the fritz?
What do you think?
I've already used msconfig to prevent unecessary apps from starting, cleaned up registry (funny thing... while the registry cleaner was running, no hangs occurred!?!)
Thanks!

u should be using SP2 for that settup because of the dualcore processor ... also make sure the dualcore hotfix from microsoft is installed .... doublechek all ur voltages ... especially on ur ram .. and check ur ram timings .. it could be bad ram .... that video card is kinda old for the settup also ... be sure the driver is up to date and all the bios related things are set right for that ..... if you get nowhere backtrack and disable all onboard stuff and remove all non essential hardware and start adding it back one at a time until the problem comes back ... a POS powersupply could cause problems also .. if u got a generic one i would upgrade to a namebrand.

I had the same thing happen a few months ago.

Ended up being a corrupted registry - I tried (I lost count) so many things to repair it to no avail - it just did not want to boot... no message or anything, just a hang.

Tried using a repair console, and that didn't work either.

In the end, I wiped the HD and did a clean install; If you've got a lot of stuff on there I hope this isn't the case. You can always get a 'live CD' version of linux and use that to remove/copy/move/backup files you want saved before a reinstall of windows.

Sorry I'm not much help...

Sometimes shutting down a pc too quickly can make windows mess up like this. The files that should have been updated in a proper shutdown have been corrupted.

Try to start windows in safe mode. Then shut down properly and try to reboot normally into regular windows.

Failing that, remove all unnecessary hardware and try again.

Failing that, change the bios so you can boot from the cd drive and load the windows cd and try rebooting with that. The windows cd should see you need a repair and help you through it.

Failing that, get a boot disk (bootdisk.com) and reboot with it and try to back up what you can. (get an external hard drive, they're great.) Then reinstall windows, which you should do once a year anyway.

Good luck!

Unless you have something shorting out in your case, I'm going to go with inadequate cooling. Get that fan seated properly! That processor puts out a lot of heat and needs a lot of cooling to keep it running right.
The power supply would cause it to drop off completely, not hang. The BIOS wouldn't allow it to sometimes boot into windows, and a faulty hard drive would not cause it to hang midway through the BIOS.

I had a radeon card before and hang, maybe you want to take that out and replace others and see if hangs.
