Can you switch hard drives between a Windows XP and Windows ME computer? My XP is down and I want to load the hard drvie onto my ME so I can backup its My Document files and then place t back into XP so I can do factory restore. I'm sure you can do it between two XP computers, but how about an XP and a ME? Thanks.

you should be able to do this
what you will have to do is set the jumper on the xp hard drive to slave cause right now it is set as master or cable select
to do this take out the drive look at it with the connections facing you in between where the IDE calbe(the fat one) and the power cable(smaller) youll see a little plastic like thing over some small pins if you look at the sticker on the hard drive it will tell you where to put the jumper to make it a slave.
once thats done you can connect it to the other computer you wont be booting from it so it doesnt matter that it has xp on it it will jsut show up as another driver letter in my computer
you may have to change the jumper on the drive in the ME machine also. some drives have a jumper setting called master w/slave if it doesnt work just by adding it try setting the jumper on the ME drive and then it should work.
good luck
oh and just remember when putting the drive back in the xp machine you will need to reset your jumpers on both back to master.

Yes you can. You may encounter chip-set driver problems(due to different motherboard chip-sets).
Best of luck!! :-)=
