By keeping it dry if possible (as in, remove objects that just sit there and find a place for them). I had bags of mulch for ever sitting there, and I moved them cuz it was permanently humid / wet underneath there. Also, sweep sweep sweep! I had moss growing on our driveway, because of the trees and shade and humidity (bottom of a hill... lots of water... you get the idea). Get used to sweeping the dirt away - twigs, leaves, pebbles, etc. Makes the asphalt look better and you can brush the moss off while you're at it. Good for the arms too! God bless you.

Mix water 3 parts, bleach 1 part. Spray the roof with a pressure sprayer. Rinse any flower beds thoroughly with clear water to dilute the bleach.
It may take more than one treatment.
Moisture and shade is the culprit.
Been there.

you can buy an algae/moss preventative at the local distributor of shingles. Go to the wholesaler where the roofers buy, not the BIGBOX store.

saw this on "this old house"....
you use zinc strips on your roof. You nail them on in sections onto the shingles.
Go to a search engine and type in something like, zinc moss roof, something is bound to come up.

every fall, sprinkle a little moss killer on your roof...you don't need much. You can get moss killer at a any home depot in the lawn and garden section. I know, i to use pesticides, but it is better than having to replace your roof every five years...good luck
