They paint a rosy picture and their followers lap it up. It is pretty sad. I talked to a conservative on another site who asked why it was the taxpayer's responsibility to rebuild New Orleans. I don't even know how to deal with that mindset.
Makes you wonder: why did we rebuild so quickly after Hugo and Andrew, yet Katrina cleanup is nowhere after a year? Does it have to do with the demographic of the cities involved?

Oh Please! Get your facts straight.
The Mayor and Governor could have evacuated people before it hit. It was well known that the city was located in a dangerous area. After it hit, the mayor and governor had no clue what the other was doing. Go back and watch their interviews. They didn't work together. It took them I think a day or two after the storm hit before they asked for Federal help. The state must ask for help first in case you didn't know.
The Federal government gave $110 Billion for recovery efforts but according to Landrieu most of it was wasted by FEMA, Corps of Engineers, etc. Louisiana is blameless in the waste...yeah, right.
Now should it be rebuilt??? Uh, it's still in an unsafe low level area (swamp land) and the levies will only last for a category 3 hurricane. Just what are you wanting or expecting??

What do you expect to happen in a nation that no longer prepares itself to deal with problems at home, constantly seeking enemies abroad?
The outrage? Gone. We no longer become outraged in this country. We've been fed so much idiocy through news columns, t.v. shows, and the like that nothing shocks us anymore. It's fairly easy to pull anything over on a society that has been completely desensitized to all forms of behavior.
Let that not stand as a plea to censor television, mind you. I simply think people need to start doing some more of their own serious contemplation of the issues at hand, assuming the ideas of the man in the little box are correct is a pitfall we need to stop falling in.
What am I saying? That's not going to happen. Oh well, I guess I'll take up yoga or something.
It is all samsara.

I was outraged that the N.O. and LA criminal politicians blamed everyone but themselves for the disaster that they themselves bungled. All you had to do is see that photo of a huge school bus depot full of flooded out buses which could have been used for evacuations and weren't.
Blaming Bush for what the corrupt liberals caused is ridiculous.

I think that you meant New Orleans government wasn't responsible. They didn't even set their own plans into motion the first thing out of their mouths was "help us."
Then not long after Mayor Chocolate put down New York for "five years later still having a hole in the ground" is in New York asking for money to re-build his "Chocolate City."
Give me a break!
