Actors fool us with body language all the time. No method is infallible but people don't usually have the opportunity to practice to beat lie detectors whereas they can practice to deceive with body language all the time, so I would have to say that I would believe that it would be more difficult for the average person to deceive a lie detector. A lie detector measures the increase in pulse and blood pressure due to tension which is caused when a person typically tenses up when telling a lie.

A lie detector is more accurate. A lie detector measures the lymphonomy activity in the brain. Some people can control the lymphonomy activity but without much practice, the common man cannot.

One of the better questions. People can actually be trained to beat a lie detector (polygraph). This machine detects physiological responses of the body in reaction to answers of certain questions. Heart-rate, blood pressure, body temp., rate of breathing and persperation are all measured.
When we lie or otherwise give an untrue statement or body conditions change and this is detected by the lie detector. In my past I was trained extensively to beat these type tests and I still can. Body language is sometimes easier to control but is still a clear give-away in most people. Someone with a "Poker Face" is an example of controlling facial expressions to hide excitment or anxiety
I think you get the picture.

Once, I was taking a lie detector test given by a beautiful woman. I had the biggest hardon and she asked me if I was aroused and I said no and the lie detector didn't catch it. But then she unzipped my pants exposing the truth that I was indeed aroused and she started giving me a BJ. So I guess body language is more accurate.

You can be trained to beat a lie detector, but since this involves controlling your pulse and heart rate, it's not that easy. Controlling your body language is possibly somewhat easier to learn. But then I went to drama school. I can lie through my teeth and no one knows - even face to face. It's a great asset.

they're quite controversial - you know you can be trained to fool a lie detector test - and some people can do it naturally - also its been shown that some people give false positives on them - i,e. some people answering certain questions will show as lieing when they're actually telling the truth.

i think a lie detector rules someone as a lying if, when they speak, it is able to detect any changes in the heart rate, blood pressure, and other physiological tendencies that accompany a nervousness that comes when someone is lying.
i'm thinking a person who can suppress the incriminating physiological traits would be competent enough, mentally, to have no trouble ensuring that their body language doesn't give them away.
