My 97' ford contour door doesn't close it locks, but it's not closed all the way.I have to bump it with my hip to make it close when i get out. It pops open on the expressway while driving.(Funny right)
Or sometime it will close with no problem. What should I do?

You need to tighten the door stricker bolt. This is the bar looking thing that's on thee body of the car where the door shuts. If it looks to worn you can buy another one at the parts store for $5. Simple fix, All it takes is a torx bit.

I'm with ya sista!

My Ford.s only got 364,000 miles on it, and I have to have something on it fixed every other year!

Sounds like some of the plastic coating on the striker/latch has come loose. Have a body shop check it out.

BTW, I worked at a Ford dealership service center in the 70's. Some of the guys in the shop were trash talking Ford's as junk. (they had GM preferences). I looked at all they bay's and except for the heavy truck bay, and 2 warranty jobs, EVERY vehicle in for repair (eight total) was a GM product! Ol Pete never could 'splain that one!

FORD = Fix Or Repair Daily, Found On Road Dead.

I know what ur saying, i've had a couple of fords and not one has been reliable. they're built by unmotivated workers making way too much money for their skills.

time to put quality back into the workers hands.

Sounds like the body is flexing and the door striker is not matching with the latch.

I thought about adjusting the latch but on most cars, this is in a fixed position.

Since this is a safety concern I'd take it to the dealer to see what they can do. I do not think any home remedies will last.

sounds like you have a bad lock pin, or losse nut behind the wheel. Its a ford, so you better get out the duct tape and just rap the whole car in 3 to 4 coats of it.

It sounds like it needs to adjusted. Take it to a mechanic.

p.s. to all you complainers: FORD also stands for First On Race Day - I have owned many Fords & they have been wonderfully reliable. I also take care of my cars (oil changes, tune-ups, trans service, timing chains/belts ON TIME), most any car will take car of you when you take care of it. C'mon, this woman has a minor problem she needs addressed on how to fix (on a roughly 10 year old car - how's that for showing longevity?) - if you want to spout off goofy nonsense, go play with the 'What Should I Do Retard' & company!

Plain and simple; Ford cars and companies owned by Ford suck. Should've bought a Chevy in the first place.

Not sure why, but i've often heard people say ford stands for fixed or repaired daily. I can only assume they're not good for making cars.
