I'd say for ratings and "entertainment". But, viewers are in part to blame. To clean up the mess it will take at least an uprising from the masses to demand more responsible programming.
In a way it's a paradox. We are barraged with infotainment and commercials, which keeps the economy moving, but it also makes us complacent. As a restult, we hold back on questioning authority and the powers that be. Together with the pharmeceutical industry (and others), the media makes us the "perfect" consumer. Absolutely numb.
While yes, they are in it to make money (they are after all corporations), journalists have some degree of responsibility to deliver the news unfiltered -- otherwise we can never be "free."
As Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1787, "The basis of our government being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter."

in case you do not imagine that the media supplies Sen. Obama a honest wreck, what information are you staring at? They pass out of their thanks to suppress each and every adverse ingredient about him, even as trumpeting each and every thing adverse about his fighters, no matter if Hillary or McCain. the reason there are so few blacks in the newsrooms is an same reason there are so few in the boardrooms in different agencies. there's a ladder to fulfillment, and a good type of blacks are not any more mountaineering the ladder the way everybody else in the previous has. a good type of them have the prefer to make their own direction to the actual, and which could be a lonely highway. certain there is a few outright racism, yet most of the lack of African individuals' presence can likely be written off because the sluggish progression of change. as long as you're speaking about the racial makeup in the newsrooms, have you ever talked about that each and every time there's a tale in a black community, the television stations deliver a black reporter. If the tale's about Hispanics, they deliver the Mexican-American reporter, etc. i won't be able to attend until eventually a bus complete of Jewish human beings receives hit via a truck complete of Vietnamese and runs right into a German eating position. they gained't comprehend which reporter to deliver. does no longer that is so a lot more effective if each and every position replaced into crammed via the most functional human being truly of attempting to fill some racial or gender quota?

The liberal media which includes most TV , radio, and newspapers, want to push the Democratic agenda. They hate the president and anyone who has religious beliefs. As far as most of them are concerned if you do not live in New York City or on the upper eastern sea board or at the very least in California you have no intelligence and are of no importance. They call the majority of the country fly over country. You know where you fly over to get from one important part of the country to the other important part of the country.

Hey, Pen, great question. Thank you. Exactly right. Why does so much of what we see and hear look and sound like canned pablum for the uncritical masses? And even more importantly, who is running this show and for what purpose? If there was ever an example of how muzzled our democracy has become, just look at the free press. And they call this the information age!

Good question, I feel that the media thinks they are overly importaint in giving facts that effect our everyday life. They have gone to the point of Shaping the way we think and that is very dangerest.
I for one would like to have at least one broadcast where they only tell you only what has happened without any left or right spin.

I think it's funny the use of the term 'liberal media.' The conservatives weren't using that name until they came into power, and people started prying into their decision making. Everyone forgets how Clinton and quite a few Dems were dragged thru the mud. No one was spewing 'liberal media bias' then. Back then they were just doing their jobs.

I hear this stupid question, so many times a day, it's amazing.
The media are in business to MAKE MONEY. They print/broadcast what their readers want (generally speaking). They provide the news in a way that is appealing to the majority of their readers/viewers/listeners. They provide TV/radio/newspapers that their readers WANT TO BUY.
