I know the correct answer to that.
You want understand, I can tell you and tell you if your white you will never understand it. But if you chose to understand then the first place to start is that those or his ancestors. "HIS ANCESTORS" as soon as others understand that this is someone else heritage, people they want understand. People judge base on what they see and not always their understanding.
From all the other white people that answer this question if that is what they believe then that goes back to my point. I could tell you the true answer but if you believe like what other whites have stated. Then you already form a preconceive idea about what YOU think blacks do or believe in.

In all honesty, the struggle of blacks in this country could have nothing to do with slavery. Blacks, as well as other races still deal with a lot of racism in this country. And we have to battle A LOT of predjudices because of what a hand full of people do. I don't think its anything meant to put you down. Its just a fact. Unless you are black, you won't understand certain things. And that is the case with every race under the sun. You can tell just by the posts here on yahoo that there is still a lot of race issues going on among black and white people. There are those who try to deny it... but its pretty obvious. You have to keep in mind that segregation, among other things was not too long ago. All that stuff was going on in the 60's, into the 70's. There were some changes that were made... but it hasn't changed everyone's way of thinking when it comes to racism. There is definitely still a struggle going on in the black communities.

We are raised with certain ideas ingrained...like survivors of the Great Depression have instilled on their children to save everything.....others it is disrespect for men of woman.
No one may even say anything it is the actions and lives we experience.. You can have empathy and listen to his concerns. Racism is still real.
You also have struggles he may not understand. Tremendous pressure to succeed as a white male (maybe).....Others have incest, deaths, ...Being overweight can be a result of how someone is raised, they are ridiculed and discriminated against.
Life is not fair .
But being a victim and always looking for someone to blame, law suits, etc. is this generations burden now .
He has a choice to acknowledge feel angry and sad then move on. We all feel sick watching clan footage. South Africa is a mess right now. Does he feel upset by that ?...we all do... I hope. Sorry for the rant. You seem like you are a good friend..

You are right, to a point. I agree you can understand the struggle as well since neither of you were exposed directly to it. The difference is that you most likely have never been directly discriminated against because of the color of your skin--he probably has, and associates that much better than you with the historical context of discrimination and slavery.

i've got no longer listened to Slipknot or Dragonforce so i won't answer that query. to this point as Metallica is worried, the consensus as to why they offered out is this.... while Metallica first hit the scene, their sound became uncooked, unpolished and crammed with angst. while they started gaining popularity they began changing their sound to be greater commercially extensive-unfold. You in no way heard experience The Lightning or Kill Em All performed on mainstream radio. while Metallica released Load and Re-Load, impulsively ballads appeard like "no longer something Else concerns" and quickly their sound began beautiful further and extra to the loads and became being performed on significant circulate radio. long previous became the youthful F*ck em physique of ideas and right here became the "i'm hoping you like this song" physique of ideas. upload to that Metallica's journey against Napster. Now comprehend i'm able to ascertain the place they are coming from there yet this became additionally the band that used to gloat how they might enable their followers usher in recording units and video cameras to checklist their stay shows, now they are suing a song sharing enterprise. a great style of followers did no longer like that contradiction and felt it became executed out of greed. To me the final straw became "some style of Monster" the action picture Metallica made. It confirmed merely how controlling Lars became appropriate to the band. Plus, remember while Metallica first began, they have been a gaggle of scruffy youngsters who performed for the affection of song and have been a band the followers ought to narrate to, now you have Lars in a private room at an public sale abode eating champagne advertising his million greenback paintings series. What fan can relate to that???

maybe he is not struggling but he understands the lengths of struggles his ancestor had to go thru so he would not struggle.
and i see that the answer about blacks getting stuff handed to them theat is a damn, f**cking lie (ecuse my french) we have to go thru so much **** to get a job, a car even a place to live. Thats why we have to have affirmative action, so stuck up tighwad whiteys can cut us some slack...
sometimes when blacks struggle is cuz of their fault yes. But things like education, we need money like loans, which some people dont want to go thru. Im telling u not a lot of blacks are struggling now, but its nice to give thanks to the people back then that allow us to get the freedoms of what other people get like a nice house, car, job... because of them we get to live the american dream with hard work :)

I can somewhat see both sides of the argument. His skin color is something he can't change, and growing up the actions of his parents have been somewhat due to their parents so yes, he does know some of the feelings since they have been passed down in tradition and attitudes not necessarily in his own having to pick the cotton or get beat. I don't mind so much if someone tries to understand or any of that. The only time I get really angry is when there are white people talking about the ghettoes and all that in a group that I am a member of and I know these girls grew up in well-to-do families and literally have Senators visiting their homes regularly and on speed-dial when I grew up there and I know what it's really like and they think just what they have heard makes their points as valid as mine of experience...

he's not struggling it's just another excuse for something. the problem is by talking about the black mans struggle and his blah blah blah, is that they are just segregating themselves even more and using it as an excuse. your friend knows nothing about the struggle of anything. and as for visiting the ghetto?.....just another excuse to feel sorry for the black man, whats the difference between a poverty stricken black ghetto and a poverty stricken white trailer park? In todays society without racial segregation there shouldn't be a difference, a person is a person. But by continually bringing up your great grandparents "struggle" your just holding back progress. while ythey're great grandparents where out there picking cotton being slaves our great grandparents where dying and fighting in wars! Terrible injustices happen to everybody , you don't see american jews talking about there struggles and wallowing in it a or using it as an excuse.

Because no matter how long ago slavery was... there is still rampant racism in this country... whether is going shopping and being followed around, or interviewing for a job or having amazing credit and already securing a bank loan for the house, and then having the realtor tell you that you just wouldn't "fit into an all white neighborhood" and I speak from experience.. ... he's right.. you could never understand the struggle..
