I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my b/f said that he would be here for me. the past few days i have had a really bad side effect from medication, i had to go to the hospital even. I called him and told him my mom was taking me - he didnt even offer to go, or to come over after i got home, then when it happened again the next day, he was sleeping and wouldnt come over - he knows im mad and appologized, but why cant he just be here for me? Weve been together 4 years, work different shifts now, and im always always there for him, am i stupid to help him when he cant be here for me? is he being mean or just dumb?

I was diagnosed with FM over ten years ago and the first few years were the worst for me. It is a long and hard road to find a way to live and I feel blessed for the good quality of life I have been able to achieve. It has been my experience that many people (not just men) have a problem with understanding this condition as you do not look as bad as you feel. He probably doesn't understand because he cannot feel what you are feeling, unsure of what he can do to help (men typically like to be able to fix things), or he is uncomfortable being around hospitals. This being said you need to impress on him how much you want his support and that maybe the two of you could go to a support group meeting in your area. Good luck.

A lot of guys have a very difficult time dealing with bad events and stress, so they just do what is easiest for them, just try to kinda ignore the situation, like the ostrich who puts his head in the sand and thinks noone knows he's there. Guys are the same way. You have to tell him specifically what you want, don't wait for him to offer to go with you, ask him to go with you. Be specific with him, and see how things go.

You chose him that way.

You can't ask him to change.

Either you accept him and eventually get knocked-up, and your are stuck with him and his kids.(Would he be a good father? I don't think so).

Or your dump him and eventually find someone with a heart and a head....

He is being thoughtless and selfish. Dump the loser. You need someone that is going to be there for you.
