i heard that ginger is a resessive gene. so if both parents have it, their kid has a 1 in 4 chance of being ginger.
heres the part i should know:
since i am ginger, if my husband is also ginger, would it increase the odds of having a ginger kid? (i have been called stupid before....and this has been buggin me for a long time)

Yes, if ginger is the dominate allele then your child with also be ginger. Dominate alleles are always dominate over other resessive alleles. If ginger is declared as a recessive allele then its based on other genes from other family members which dominite allele is provided.

Actually, the child has a one in four chance of NOT being ginger. You only get regressive traits if both of the relevant genes are for that trait, from which it follows that if both parents show the same recessive trait, then the children must also have it, unless gene-mutation takes place.

However, human genetics are a bit more complicated than that, so other chromosomal factors may come into play.

Yes, If you both have the dominant alleal your kid will have ginger. There is no way to know if you have a dominant or recessive alleal

You're lucky. I love red hair.

Genetically speaking, I'm pretty sure red hair is recessive, although my only basis of that is a memory from 6th grade general science, so don't put a lot of stock in my answer.

I'm a labor and delivery nurse, and it seems to me that red heads almost always have redheads. And there is nothing cuter than a red haired baby.

You may find this article interesting. I have friends who have hoped to pass on red hair in their family with the Dad being a red head but had no luck. It does seem to be becoming rarer which I find interesting.

Here's hoping that you are able to pass on the gene.
