What's the best way to get good at the guitar? Any helpful guides online or whatnot? What are your experiences with the guitar, how long have you played?

The best way to pick up the guitar is to get an inexpensive electric, a small amp with some effects built in (Line in & headphone jacks, too!), and find some other friends to play with. Very important: Get extra light strings! This enables you to play for a longer period of time without your fingertips getting sore so quickly...
The tour doesn't start for a couple of years, so you've got time to learn... Try to find some friends that are just beginning or have been at it awhile... It's more fun that way... You can show them something you just figured out and vice-versa...
Try not to expect too much too soon or you'll tend to get discouraged...
WATCH how others play, too... You can get a lot of good teaching videos these days...
Remember: It's all about expressing yourself, but it takes time to build good quality playing - whether you've got a lot of talent or a little...

Make a G chord with your pinky... You'll thank me later...

I've been playing 32 yrs or so now and have been in a few bands... Play by ear and can learn anything I hear without sheet music...

ive played the guitar since i was in middle school. start out with chords, it takes a while to get use to holding down the strings and you will start to have sore finger tips but its a good thing bc they will grow harder. try these sites chordie.com echords.com they both show you the chords used in a song. try to find an easy song you know. also when i was in high school i picked up a computer program called guitar basics from target.. it showed me how to play the right way. it takes time so be patient and dont expect to be like led zepplin in a week.

I have played for the last year and a half now and the way that I first learned was with a DVD by Fender. It was a very well put together instructional video and it teaches you chords, finding notes on the neck, and even scales. A DVD is definitely the way to go since it gives a visual guide to learning.

By getting an instructor and getting teached every day. If you don't practice enough, you won't be able to learn! Just like how I play on the keyboard, my parents can't afford a piano teacher so I kind of taught myself and now I made up a type of style on my keyboard! I was so glad that day!

I practice alot, I don't take lessons. I find that it is best to find your own style, and you can take lessons if you want to after you discover your own style. That is exactly how AFI's guitar player, Jade, learned.
