If the NBA eliminates their defensive 3 second violation, American players will be better against the world standard zone defense. That and they'll get better at defending with zone defense as well.

work together as a team, instead of letting their ego play the game.
You can't expect a W every time. Even Tiger loses every now and then. And, the Bulls never played a perfect season during their hay-day (but sure as heck close to it with their 72-10 record in 95-96 season). But, when it came down to the wire, and the championship was on the line, then that's when the BEST of the BEST come out. Unfortunately, that's not the USA team this year.
Everyone (yes, everyone) shares the blame on this one. The PLAYERS obviously get most of it. They missed foul shots (should be free-bees), layups (again, free-bees), dunks (and yet again, free-bees) and wide open threes. Worse, they let Greece continuously beat them down the court for easy fast break buckets. It was like watching "Space Jam" Yes, they went in with confidence, but that will only get you so far as getting on the court.
The COACHES get some of the blame too. Greece was running a basic 2-3 zone (a defense everyone was taught how to beat when in grade school basketball, and even my 6th grade team knows how to beat this) and we were running some kind of iso one-on-five offense.
What spanked the USA team was the pick-and-roll (Greece ran it like textbook) on the other end. There's no excuse for not being able to slow that down. Pick-and-rolls are basically the backbone of NBA offenses and these guys see them every single day. (Utah in the late 90s ran it best, and they were stopped by the Bulls twice!!!)
Yes, I am passionate about this topic. But there is (was) a reason why I am so passionate about it... which I can't seem to find with this team. Don't get me wrong, I admire the players and their individual contributions. They just have to remember that they are a team, and it is a team effort.

i've always been wary of single elimination games since a more superior team can have an off night and lose....given the less accurate shooting percentages of the usa team their loss of only 6 points was an indication of their superior talent...they were outshot 62 to 50 percent and only sank 59% from the free throw line...i really think fiba should change the single elimination format for the semis and finals so fluke winners would be more far-fetched...best of three would make the americans probable winners in their recent losses in the international scene

Wonderful salaries are making less effort on winning targeting. Too much divas because they are the best players in continent, best salaries, but not the best winning effort. they were like Brazil in World Cup, they expected to win by name, great sponsors and worlwide fame for all the times.Teams are increasing the game level.
I love seeing them play, since Barcelona!!!

figure out how to beat the zone
none of the teams played the US man-to-man or else they would get dominated
we couldn't hit shots from the three, they need like a kyle korver or someone with skills hitting 3's

I think steve kerr, allan houston, sam perkins, ray allen, and glen rice, beat any european team
the europeans know how to exploit the rules, and the fiba rules give advantage to shooters. The nba rules give advantage to better ballhandlers

Learn one of sand lot's basic rules do not continue to shoot long shots if they are not falling in.
Any good coach pulls his player from the game and sits him down beside him and tells him son you will sit here until you do what I ask you to do.

Stop coking on the international stage. Their player selection was much better than it has been recently. They need role players. Not just scorers.
