Yeah, and there is a 'ME' in team - I love to point that out to wacko sports people that spout stuff like that! ; )

because it takes a great team to be winners. But great teams are made of individuals who work together for the greater cause of winning.
There is no "I" in loser because nobody wants to lose, there is an "I" in winner because everyone wants to win, but few actually work to win.

Because I am the winner. Only one person can make the winning goal or winning basket.

That's just how it's spelled, gimme a break. Just because there's an "I" in Winner, doesn't mean you've got to be a jerk in order to win.
Notice that there is a ME in TEAM.

note that there is a "stfu and stop whining, play the game, give it your all, if you lose then you suck, winners go home and screw the prom queen" in the old saying "stfu and stop whining, play the game, give it your all, if you lose then you suck, winners go home and screw the prom queen"
if you can't win........don't play. Do or Do not......screw trying
my old coach used to say "Come in first or be the first on the bus....your choice"

Ok here is an example. Say you have a basketball TEAM, it takes all players to win that game not just one person.
