Not as much as you think.
If you put it in a bank a/c, at current rates (5%) you will get £800 per day after tax, which is about the same as most top lawyers, doctors and directors of large companies get.

But while their earnings are inflation proof, your earning and capital will be losing value and you will die much less rich than you started. Most people would then consider you a failure.

It all depends on where you put it. If you put it in something very safe, like the bank or money market funds, you'll earn very little and may not keep up with inflation.

If you don't need the money for 3 years or more, you should look towards more aggressive investments (not too aggressive unless you're 10 years out or more) for at least some of it, so you can earn a higher rate of return. You can expect 8-12% a year on average from a moderately conservative stock portfolio, however stocks go both up and down so that's an average over time, not something anyone can guarantee every month.

Talk to a good financial advisor.

I am sure it will depend on how you invest and in what type of account. In the US you can choose an IRA, high yield bonds, savings accounts etc. You need to talk to an investment banker to find the plan to best suit your needs.
